Oh How I’ve Missed You

Oh sweet sweet scripture, how I have missed you.

That’s right. I missed my Bible. It was never actually lost or missing. Really if anything I was the one lost. My Bible has just been sitting by my bedside longing to be opened and read. And honestly it’s been a while. Granted I have been reading quotes from the Bible often (I have a little Daily Devotional book type thing for teens that has a short quote from the Bible and a mini lesson underneath it and it’s pretty great) and I hear scripture readings ever weekend when I go to mass. But sometimes you just miss opening up your actual Bible.

I actually opened up my literal Bible for the first time in weeks for a rather odd but funny reason. I was going through my various social medias when I came across this picture:

I was intrigued. What possibly could this picture of a man eating a large meaty leg have to do with scripture? So out of curiosity I seeked the answer. I exited out of the page and was about to open my Bible app to look up the verse. However, out of the corner of my eye I saw my lonely Bible sitting on my bed side table. It called to me and for the first time in what feels like forever I answered.

I flipped through the many pages and found what I was looking for. Not going to lie, I literally laughed out loud when I read it. Deuteronomy 12:15 says,”However, in any of your communities you may slaughter and eat meat freely, according to the blessing that the Lord, your God, has given you; the unclean as well as the clean may eat it, as they do the gazelle or the deer.” I now see how it relates to a man eating a huge hunk of meat. I don’t know why I find that so funny but it cracks me up (and people say scripture is boring pssshhh).

It felt good to hold my Bible in my hands again. It made me realize how much I missed it. How much I need it.

If you haven’t opened your Bible in a while, I highly recommend it. I, myself, am going to try and get better about reading my Bible more often. If you are looking for a specific book to read, word on the street is the Gospel of Matthew is a pretty good start.

For now though I challenge you to look up the verse (it was my favorite verse in 10th grade) in this picture (I edited it myself… hehe):

I love that picture of Deuteronomy 12:15, and I’m really glad you picked up your bible again. I’m also like you, when I look up scripture for writing my sermons etc. I’ll usually use a bible app on my PC etc. but next time I’ll remember to use my actual bible.
